A Danish government agency modernized its IT delivery operations to be able to both deliver via classic projects and Agile Release Trains - a bimodal setup. The background was emagine's Ready-Sync-Go concept, which ensured a roadmap for an agile transformation as well as tailored supplier collaboration and DevOps initiatives.
The challenge
The agency's existing IT function within its delivery operations lacked modernization, prompting a desire to embrace agile forms of collaboration more extensively.
Furthermore, there was a wish to improve the collaboration with the operating organization through a range of DevOps initiatives in a bimodal setup based on SAFe®.
Within this bimodal setup, there was also a requirement to transition from traditional project management to an agile setup utilizing Scrum. This adjustment was necessary as both internal employees and external suppliers increasingly adopted Scrum methodologies for IT solution development.
Solution
When emagine took up the task, the agency had only identified and described the agile transformation as a possible solution without any concrete plans.
Our consultants prepared and completed a list of clarification-workshops, where the frameworks and proportions of the agile transformation were aligned and solidified.
Based on the defined objectives, we established a roadmap that outlined the necessary steps for the agile transformation. This roadmap included competence building by utilizing emagine's Ready-Set-Go concept.
Simultaneously, a range of competence-building courses for management were completed, so management possessed the necessary insight to make decisions regarding the upcoming transformation.
This concrete and practice-oriented approach to scoping and initiating the agile transformation ensured that the agency got off to a good start with its agile transformation toward a bimodal setup, based on SAFe®.
